FAQ

Q: How do I join the team or get in contact with someone?
A: Send us an email (Comp_Equestrian@bentley.edu), DM us @bentley_equestrian, or click on the contact us tab and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Q: Do I have to have any riding experience?
A:
Some experience is preferred, though we welcome students with any type of riding background. We cannot guarantee membership to a student with no experience due to potential challenges in placing the student in the appropriate lesson. We do, however, still encourage you to reach out as we may be able to accommodate new riders.

Q: Do I have to compete?

A: While we can help coordinate riding lessons for students who do not wish to compete, non-competing riders will not have any team affiliation, access to financial resources, or transportation afforded to team members.

Q: Do I need to own my own horse?
A: No. We take lessons on horses provided by Maplewood Farm. In competition, the hosting barn will provide horses.

Q: Do I need to have my own tack?
A: No. All tack (saddles, bridles, etc.) will be provided for you at both lessons and shows. However we do not provide boots, helmets and riding clothes.

Q: What is the time commitment?
A: Riders will attend two scheduled practices per week, in addition to all horse shows unless prior notice has been given the rider cannot attend. We allocate four hour time blocks per practice which include transportation to and from Maplewood Farm, time to tack up and untack, and time mounted. Horse shows take the large majority of the day and are scheduled on weekends only.

Q: What is the financial commitment?

A: Riders must have their own riding and show apparel. For members who already have the essentials (tall boots, helmet, tan breeches, show shirt, show coat), there are few out of pocket expenses, which may include dues and optional team apparel. For members needing to purchase the previously mentioned items, expenses can range from $300-$600 depending on the purchases required.

Q: When is the equestrian season?

A: We ride all year! We typically have 4-6 shows in the fall and 1-3 shows in the spring.

Q: Do I need to be a full-time Bentley University student?
A: Yes. You must be a full time student to compete and ride with BET.
